Reuban Henry DIGBY born abt 1865 in Carcoar, NSW- Who were his parents

Query by jules10

According to Reubens death certificate he was born in Carcoar, NSW, Australia about 1865. His parents were John DIGBY and Mary ASPINHALL - John was a miner.

I am having trouble finding any record of Reubans birth or John and Marys marriage or their deaths. Confusing the issue (to me)is another John DIGBY born in 1840 in Essex, England(to Thomas DIGBY and Elizabeth HAWKS) who married Mary Ann PEARCE in 1877 and lived in the same area in NSW. I am pretty sure this is not Reuban Henrys parents as John DIGBY/Mary Ann PEARCE didnt marry until 1877 - although it could be his father.

Reuban Henry married Mary Jane CROUCHER in Galley Swamp 1886 and moved to Karangahake, near Paeroa, NZ in 1905 and died in Karangahake on 24th October 1912. He is buried in the Paeroa Cemetery. I think Mary Jane moved back to Australia and married Charles PRECIOUS in 1913.

Reuben Henry is my GG grandfather and if anyone has any information that would help me solve this puzzle, that would be great.

Regards
Julie

It's possible the birth of the 'Unnamed Male DIGBY' born in Orange, N.S.W., in 1865 to parents John and Mary DIGBY could be your Reuben. Unnamed does not mean the child died at birth.

This John and Mary DIGBY had another six children in Orange and Carcoar between 1866 and 1879.

There was also a Sarah DIGBY died in Carcoar in 1870 (no age given) to parents John and Mary, but I could not find a birth for her.

One sure way to find out Rueben's correct parents names, and a few more details about his birth, would be to obtain his marriage certificate for 1886. If your looking at saving money go for a transcript at half the cost.

Once you confirm Rueben's parents names I would also be obtaining a transcript for the birth of the 'Unnamed Male DIGBY' born in 1865. This does not name the child, but it will name the parents ... and where they were married.

This does not solve your problem, but may help.

Cheers.

Thank you Tonkin for the advice.

I had already sent away for the birth certificate of the unnamed male DIGBY born in 1865. I wasnt sure how this would help me but if it is the parents I am looking for and it tells me where they were married I will at least have somewhere to start searching (I did not realise it may tell me this). If this certificate is no help then I will definetly get Reubens marriage certificate.

I will post here any information I get from these certificates

Well, I have received the birth certificate for the unnamed DIGBY boy born in 1865. Cant read what the date of birth is but it was registered on 7 Mar 1865 so it must be 26 Jan or 26 Feb 1865.

His father was John DIGBY, miner, 25, born in England and his mother Mary ASPINALL, 25, born in England. Unfortunately the "Date and place of Marriage- previous issue" was blank so I am not much wiser except to confirm that these are REubans parents and this is probably his birth certificate.

Does any one out there have a birth certificate for any of the children listed below to parents John DIGBY and Mary or Mary A or Mary Ann -
Elizabeth born 1866 in Orange
Alice

Sorry my computer submitted the above before I was ready so I will carry on.

Am looking for a birth certificate for the children born to John DIGBY and Mary, Mary A or Mary Ann -
Elizabeth born 1866 in Orange, NSW
Alice born 1868 in Orange, NSW
Mary A born in 1872 in Carcoar, NSW
Alice born 1874 in Orange,NSW

The reason I am hoping someone has one for the above children is so I can see if they are the children of John DIGBY and Mary ASPINALL or John and Mary Ann PEARCE. They may also have where the marriage took place.

I have not requested the marriage certificate yet of Reuban Henry Digby and Mary Jane CROUCHER as I am not sure this will tel me any more than I already know.

Hope some one out there can help me.

Julie
