Query by clangillespie

My name is Charles Gillispie, I am the "Steward" of the "Clan Gillespie Society" with members all over the world. We are seeking all persons who share the ancient surname Gillespie and all the variations of spelling as well. We are "Gathering the clan" to preserve our family heritage by sharing genealogies, family histories, family stories and old photographs of our ancestors.

We have hundreds of family trees and are adding more everyday, we are working on Theopolis Gillaspy Virginia 1776 so any information you may be able to share would be great.

hello,thankyou for posting.

I have recently discovered a connection to Thomas Gillespie of Middlesex, London who married my ggg grandmother 3 months after she became a widow with 3 children.

I am inclined to think that perhaps he went to AUSTRALIA, not necessarily as a convict, but perhaps. My gg grandfather, one of the orphaned children arrived in VDL in 1830 and when he died 1887 his death certificate had the names of both his parents. As they both were dead by the time he was 12 I find it most unusual that he knew their names or that his father had been a soldier (16th dragoons. I suspect he had other family in the colony but it could only be his stepfather Thomas Gillespie or his sister Joanna and i can find neither.

Do you have a family tree with Thomas Gillespie who married 1812 at St James, Westminster, Piccadilly, London to Bridget Jenkins/Jerkins or Mary Thomas in Soho, a few years later ?

kind regards
Judy
