Query by S_W_Gerrard

Where Rev. Gerrard was born, who is parents were, etc. are unknown. I believe he is descended through the Gerrards of Suffolk County, NY, but am unable to find any proof. Problems with the name are one issue. Sometimes it is shown as Gerrard, Gerard, Garrard, Garard, Garrett, Jarrett, etc. John had a brother named Elias (1732-1797) who was born on Long Island, NY. There were also several Gerrards who lived on Long Island during the time of the Revolution. Elias Gerrard lived in Brookhaven. Benjamin, John, Joseph and William Gerrard were all members of the Suffolk County militia. Nathaniel Gerrard and Isaac Gerard were listed as heads of households in 1776 for Smithtown, Suffolk County, NY. Although I cannot directly link these Gerrards as ancestors, they are all names that were common in the Gerrard families who had settled in Virginia (now WV).

Thanks. The Gerrards listed are progeny of Rev. Gerrard (b. c1720; d. 1787). I just can't seem to find his parents.
