Bransgroves in Australia

Journal by nwilson

I am descended from John T Bransgrove, 1794-1847, and Juliana Green 1787-1860, who emigrated to Australia from England in 1841 after other members of the family had already settled. Interested in further information of their lives.

Would that be Bransgrove from Tasmania?
His wife Juliana was 65 when she died in Melbourne and that was 6 April 1860.
They had a son called George who had a butcher's shop in Launceston and drew some attention from the law when he was accused of selling dog meat to the chinese. He escaped a charge because two of his friends took the wrap.
He married a girl from Sydney, Isabella Holman and then moved to Sydney. He kept the Great Britain hotel in George-street. He died 15 September 1865 aged 45. He and Isabella had 7 or 8 children

Port Phillip Gazette and Settler's Journal (Vic)Saturday 30 October 1847 - Page 2
MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT.
— An accident,
which it is feared is of a fatal nature, but
which is as yet shrouded in mystery occurred
on Thursday evening to Mr. Bransgrove, butcher,
Bourke-street. On that afternoon Mr. B. had been
to Williams Town getting some cattle shipped for Launceston
and returned on horseback by the
Salt Water Punt. About an hour after he
had crossed the punt, on his way home, the
inhabitants there heard a splash in the
water, and on running out to see what was
the matter they found Mr. Bransgrove's
horse in the river, but without & rider.
Having assisted the horse to get out, they
searched for Mr. B., but without success.
Information was immediately conveyed to
his relatives, when steps were instantly
taken to have the river dropped. Yester-
day persons were at work all day, searching
for the body, but up to sundown without
avail. Mr. Bransgrove had but lately arrived
from Launceston, where he was well
known and highly respected.
