Parents of Chesley Davis 1817-1881 Heard,Ga./Randolph, Al.

Query by wilsonpkb

I have hit a brick wall. The online family trees suggest that Chesley Davis's parents were Rev.William Davis Jr.and Joice Johnson Davis. So far I have not found any proof. Chesley was born 1817 and died 1881 according to the tombstone online. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church according to church records. He was married to Sarah Elana Melanus Green, but I cannot find any marriage document. They had several children. All of the children except one were born in Heard Co. Georgia. Chesley was also born there. It appears that they moved to Randolph Co. Alabama about 1851 according to the census records. He and his wife are buried in the Big Springs Cemetery according to the cemetery records. Chesley served in the Confederate Army. Even though he was an officer, I cannot find any personal records or mention of family. There are also three different land documents verifying his purchase of land in Alabama. I have excerpts from books and newspaper articles but I cannot find any documentation that ties him to his parents. The two courthouses that would usually have the birth and death records burned and I cannot find any duplicates. I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

I have not been able to connect them either. People want to connect them maybe because they are on the 1850 Census in close proximity, but Henry William Clark wrote a genealogy book on The Davis Family in 1905 and Chesley is not listed there, nor anywhere in the whole book. Clark starts off William/Joice's family with Reuben, born in 1819. If you want to see the book I?m talking about, look on page 13 and 14 of this book:
