My ggrandfather William Wilkin Ebbett left Cornwall in 1867 to travel to New Zealand to join the armed constabulary.The first record of him in New Zealand was his marriage to Mary Ann Kirk in Tauranga 18th March 1872. I cannot find any shipping record.
William Wilkin Ebbett b 3.2.1840 St Agnes d.29.6.1893 New Plymouth.
Mary Ann Kirk b.1845 Dublin but I believe living in Liverpool before her departure to
NZ d.16.5.1893.
Was there any special transport for those joining the constabulary? I have records for his two half brothers who came out a little later.
Ebbett-does anyone know what ships the armed constabulary came out to nz on. William Ebbett came to NZ to fight in the maori wars.I know he married 25th mar 1871 in Tauranga to Anne Kirk and their first born William Henry was born there 18 april 1872.
These dates are after Gate Pa or Te Ranga but we know he went on to Taupo and then Taranaki. His brother Thomas Frederick, said he left England in 1867 for NZ. His half brothers left for NZ in 1875 and I have a record of their ships.

ABRAHAM BARRELL I believe was born near London and came out to nz to settle initially in canterbury. I cannot find any shipping record (I'm thinking in the 1870's) He married Sarah Skudder who came out on the 'hereford' They later moved to Paihiatua.
Abrahams brother Mark married Sarahs sister Harriet.Mark and Sarah lived all their lives in Rangiora

Veale, Emily 36 in 1901,Halket, Christchurch. came to NZ when a child. Has anyone seen a record of her trip out here or other family members
