Looking for the father of Justine Sophie Hilsmann. Her name is listed as Justine Sophie Margarethe nee Riechers, born in Wippennbusch, Hanover. Her death certificate (March 21, 1894) gives her name as Christine Sophie Margarethe Hilsmannn, born in Germany
On the death certificate her father's name is listed as Nicolaus Riechers and her mother as M[indecipherable] Richers, both born in Germany. However, Ancestry.com's genetic links and other hints keep pulling up a Friedrich Christoph Conrad Riechers. This is further complicated by the fact that there are multiple Christines, Justines, Sophies, and Margarethes/Margarets in the Hilsmann, Riechers, and Harre/Harra families
Heinrich Hilsmann's Arrival
I finally solved the mystery of my great-great grandfather Hilsmann's arrival to the U.S. I have his discharge document from the Hanoverian Army dated June 30, 1853 and a transcript of his parish record that he had made before leaving Germany. I have the deed to the family cemetery plot purchased 1860. I though I'd found him on a June 28, 1858 passenger list for the steamer Repbulik from Bremen. The first name was abbreviated Hch, which is a common abbreviation for Heinrich. Howevere, the age didn't match, but the place of origin and occupation matched, so I chalked it up to a recording error. Later I found his declaration of intent to become a U.S. Citizen dated November 15, 1854. This was too much of a discrepancy to overlook, so back to 7,the passenger lists. I finally found him and a younger relative, Friedr., arriving on the steamer Hansa from Bremen on August 1854.
