Looking for the IRWIN family in Manitoba
The IRWINs married into the EYRES/EYERS family in the early 1840s in Mantlin, County Fermanaugh, Ireland. John IRWIN and Maggie EYRES had five children: Sarah,(15 Jan. 1843 in Ireland), Eliza, (21 Dec. 1844 in Fenelon Falls, Ont.), William, (1 Jan. 1847 in Fenelon Township, Victoria County, Ont.), Jack, (22 June 1851 in Fenelon Township, Victoria County, Ont.) and Joseph (03 Aug. 1952 in Dunsford, Verulam Township, Victoria County, Ont.).
The four oldest IRWINs stayed in Ontario. Sarah moved to Galt with her husband and family. Eliza married and stayed in Fenelon Township all her life. William and his family stayed around Dunsford. It was Joseph who wandered.
After marrying Sarah Ann COOPER in Lindsay, Ont. on 10 April 1873, they farmed in Fenelon Township. The couple had six children there, three sons and three daughters:
"Jack" William John (Fenelon Falls, Ont. - 18 Jan. 1874), Robert L. (Fenelon Township, Ont. - Mar. 1876), Ida Flaurence (Fenelon Township, Ont. - 17 Feb. 1878), Lily M. (Fenelon Township, Ont. - about 1880, Joseph, Junior (Fenelon Township, Ont. - 16 Apr. 1882),
Maria Elizabeth (Fenelon Township, Ont. - about 1884).
In 1885, the Joseph IRWIN family moved north to Parry Sound, Ont. It was there that their littlest daughter died in 1885. The next year, another son was born, Albert E.
According to the 1891 Census, the family was living in the Amor & Ryerson Townships, attending the Church of England and farming. Another researcher has the year of immigration to Manitoba as 1892, going to Arden in the Winchester District. Two years later, in 1894, they are settled in Westbourne Municipality, near the Plumas Post Office. It is here that two more children are born; Hugh W. in 1894 and James H. in 1896. James may have died young as he is not listed in the 1906 census. Their last child, Lulu was born in Manitoba in 1907.
"Jack"'s six children were all born in Plumas, Manitoba, where both he and his wife "Bird" Smith are buried. Most of the children travelled even further west to Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
Robert moved to Saskatchewan and married Lillian. Their two children, Evelyn and Casey, were born there.
Ida was thirty-five when she married William ROSS, eighteen years her senior. She lived until 1970.
Lily M. and Joseph, Junior and Albert have very skimpy biographies.
Hugh recieved basic military training at Camp Hughes for the first World War.
Lulu Rubina is another sibling with a skimpy biography.
Joseph and Sarah IRWIN are both buried in Plumas, Manitoba.
If anyone recognizes these names and dates and can add to my family tree, I would love to hear from you.
