I am looking for information on Joseph Currier b: Dec 1841, French Canadian, immigrated to US between 1841 and approximately 1860. There are a couple of variations for his wife?s name including Elizabeth Julie "Eliza" Grogan, Eliza Jane, and Jane b: 10 June 1841 in Illinois or Indiana. They were married 1 Feb 1861 Effingham County, Illinois On the 1870 census they were living in Cole County, Illinois and had three children all listed by their middle names, as was their mother listed as Jane. (FN--William) Nelson, (FN--Joseph) Dennis, and (FN--Mary) Etta, there was also another woman 50 yrs old listed as Eliza whom I believe was Jane's mother, but that is only an assumption.
They were listed on the 1880 census as Kurrier in Eastern Franklin, County. listed as Joseph, Eliza J, Wm M., Joseph D., Marietta, Presley E, Leonard F. and Eliza J Shahan listed as mother again I believe her to be Eliza Jane Grogan's mother.
Some time between 1880 and 1888 they moved to Douglas, County, Missouri and settled. Joseph died in 1888. There is no record of Eliza Jane Shahan or Sheehan moving to Douglas County so I believe she probably died before they moved but have found no record of that in Illinois
Eliza is listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedule living in Walls Township, Douglas County and again her name was spelled Eliza J Kurrier. Joseph was a private in the Union Army 26th Regiment Illinois Infantry Co. A. he also is listed as John Kurrier.
Eliza died 14 Mar 1920 in Douglas County, Missouri and both are buried in the Sweden Cemetery, Brown Township, Douglas County, Missouri.
It is possible that Eliza Jane Sheehan was born as Eliza Jane Deal in Putnam County Illinois. There was an Eliza Jane Deal that married a David Culwelll Grogan 23 Nov 1836, in Putnam County and was then widowed and married a James Sheehan 15 May 1850.
