SYKES and SIKES Family Research

I am a long time genealogist with a big interest in the SYKES or SIKES surname.

A very active organization is The Sikes/Sykes Families Association and I encourage you to visit their web site at http://sikes-sykesfamilies.rootsweb.com/index.htm
We have a tremendous amount of information on many Sikes and Sykes lineages posted on this web page. If your branch is not included, we would like to hear from you.

We publish a quarterly newsletter The Tributaries which is distributed to 26 states and 13 major libraries and genealogical societies. It contains previously unpublished material, member news, queries, and more.

We also sponsor a DNA Project to assist researchers in locating their common ancestors

Members of the Association are currently planning a trip to England in the Spring of 2009 to try to make a connection with the large group of Sykeses in Yorkshire.

If you, too, have an interest in this surname, we would like to hear from you.

My ELGIE Family

I have been working on genealogy research since 1987. My ELGIE
family comes from several towns and villages in North Yorkshire
(Brompton, West Acklam, Northallerton, Knaresborough, St. Busby
near Stokesley, Hutton Rudby, Ingleby Arncliffe, and others.

In the early 1830s, some of this family emmigrated to Ontario,
Canada and settled in communities of Guelph, Orangeville, Perth,
Chatham, Dresden, and Blenheim. Later generations live(d) in
Toronto, London, Fergus, Palmerston, Windsor, Kingsville, Keswick,
Hamilton, Burlington, Oshawa, Midland, Sudbury, Red Lake and other
towns and villages.

Other surnames associated with my ELGIEs are MURRAY, TENNANT,
WATSON, WALKER, APPLETON, SHERWOOD, ADAMSON, HOWTHWAITE, AND
HODGSON.

I have posted some of my ELGIE research to my website.

I would like to visit with anyone who has an ELGIE connection.
