Mitchell from France

My paternal grandmothers fathers father came from France and was called Pierre (later changed to Peter) Mitchell, born 1827c. died 1908 in Auckland, New Zealand. I have been unable to trace his arrival in New Zealand. It is said he could barely speak English.
My question is: from where or when would the family name "Mitchell" of originated in France?
Thanks, Grant

Finding the Jone's family

Looking up information on my paternal grandmothers family. Her mother was Rosa Elizabeth Jones, married to George Taylor Mitchell.

Rosa's father was buried in Morrinsville. I had no idea why so was amazed to discover the family had been settlers in Morrinsville.

George William Jones and Mary Anne Jones nee Bennett arrived on the ship Helvellyn in November 1863. With children. I have seen a ships passenger list for the Helvellyn but it only say's "Mr Jones , Mrs Jones etc so is not very informative.

However, I have found the death certificates for this ancestors. They state: George William as an insurance agent.
His son, George Bennett Jones as an accountant and George William his father also as an accountant. So, take your pick!

My married daughters surname is Orr. Apparently the Orr's farmed/came from Morrinsville.
After trawling the old cemetery for Jones' we came upon James Jones and Basil John Orr. I didn't know who James Jones was but thought he could be related. Ditto for Basil.

I have barely started so the hunt is on. I have countries of origin and date of BDM's for George William, Mary Anne,George Bennett, his wife, Elizabeth Caroline Jones nee Sawyer. Also have a couple of photo's. I am trying to track down the Sawyer side now too.

I have been trying to trace each family line back to the original immigrants, the ships they came on and any other info about them that I can.
