My paternal grandfather, Samuel James McGifford was born in Co Down, Hillsborough, Northern Ireland. His father was Solicitor James Crothers McGifford who was married to Mary Elizabeth Ervin.

James C's father was William John McGiffford, JP who was married to Sarah Ann Bell.

William J's father was Samuel McGifford who was married to a woman named Ellenor.

Samuel's father was also a Samuel McGifford who was married to a woman named Abigail.

It is my understanding that the family had orignated in Scotland, but I have no other information than that.

Can anyone help fill in the blanks?
