Thomas was convicted of stealing a pig in June 1829, sentenced to 7 years transportation along with his compatriate Adam Colemen. Hobbs was sent to Hobart, Coleman to Sydney.
Hobbs arrived in Hobart 18/12/1830 aboard the Clyde that had left Portsmouth the previous August.
After his release Thomas is found again as an early settler at the Salt Water River area. Here and near Werribee he purchased a number of acres of land for sheep farming. He married Elisabeth McNamara in Melbourne and had 2 sons. Thomas and Patrick George. He died at his home on the Salt Water river in 1851 aged 1856. I am a descendant of John Hobbs one of the sons that Thomas left behind in the UK, now also living in South Australia.
