Margaret Mary Casey who was born August 24, 1844 in Cahirciveen, near Killarney in County Kerry , Ireland, the daughter of John Casey and Johanna Coakley.

Emigration from County Kerry began on a large scale circa 1845 mainly to the East Coast of the United States. In 1845-1855, the peak years of the Great Famine, County Kerry lost about thirty percent of its population to death and emigration with an excess mortality rate of +15%.

In 1852 the Casey family landed in Baltimore, Maryland and later journeyed through Panama to San Francisco in California where she arrived about 1865 or 1864, with her family. This was the time even prior to the failed attempt by the French at building the Panama Canal. Margaret married John Bernard Cronin in the year 1864 in San Francisco, California at a Catholic Church just outside of Chinatown (its torn down now).
From S.F., John and Margaret went to Allison Ranch (up by Nevada City) California where their first child was born Daniel Bernard 25 July 1865. After a time there they moved to Carson City, Nevada where Magaret Gertrude, was born 22 October, 1871. Their third child Michael Francis was born 9 March 1873 in Carson City, Nevada. Annie, was born 10 October 1875 in Austin, Nevada, she was their fourth child. Their fifth child was John Austin, born 29 July, 1878 in Austin, Nevada. Their sixth child a girl, my grandmother, was Clara Nevada (Agnes), her birthday was 23 July 1881, she was born in Austin, Nevada too. The seventh child was My Aunt Kate, Katherine Mary Louise who was born 31 March 1884 also in Austin, Nevada. Possibly their was another son John who died when small, because he is listed in the 1870 Census-Virginia City, Nevada, as being a two year old, when the other John wasn't born until 1878. Also, in the 1900 census Margaret list 9 children born to her and 6 living.
Margaret and John moved to Eureka, Utah in 1887. They lived there until their deaths. Margaret died 19 Feb. 1912, in Eureka, Utah of Necrosis of the liver at her daughter's home (Margaret Gertrude).

Margaret's obit. reads:
Mrs. Margaret Cronin, widow of the late John B. Cronin and one of the pioneer residents of this city, died last Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Shea, after a lengthy illness from necrosis of the liver. Mrs. Cronin was a most esteemable lady, a loving mother, and despite her advanced age she led a very active life. Her death had been expected for some time but not withstanding this fact it came as a severe blow to the members of the family who will have the sympathy of hundreds of friends in their sorrow.
The deceased was born in Killarney, Ireland. In the year 1844, and accompanied her parents to America when a child of 8 years. They first settled in Baltimore, Md., but in 1865 made the trip to San Francisco going by way of Panama. It was in California that the deceased married John B. Cronin and shortly afterwards moved to Virginia City, Nevada. Leaving that city they made their home in Austin and also lived in many other Nevada mining camps which at that time were in the heydey of their development. It was in 1887 that the family settled in Tintic, and this has been their home ever since. Mrs. Cronin was the mother of six children and all but one survive her. Those living are as follows: Mrs. Magaret Shea, John Cronin and Miss Katie Cronin of this city; D. B. Cronin of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Miss Clara Darnell of Pocatello, Idaho.
The funeral services were conducted from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in this city on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Mannion officiating and delivering an appropriate eulogy filled with words of comfort for the members of the family. Many beautiful floral offerings covered the casket. The interment took place in the city cemetery.
The pallbearers were as follows P. C. Downey, Tim Downey, P. J. Fennel, James Stack, John Ivey, and D. J. Sullivan. The Eureka Reporter

Mrs. Margaret Cronin Dies
Eureka-Feb. 18 Death today claimed Mrs. Margaret Cronin, widow of J. B. Cronin, who settled in Eureka in 1877 A liver malady was the cause.

Mrs. Cronin was born in 1844 in Killarney, Ireland. she came to America in 1865, going to San Francisco via Panama, and from the Golden Gate to Nevada; where she lived with her husband whom she married there,until they removed to Eureka.
Five children survive. They are Daniel B. Cronin, John Cronin, Mrs. Margaret Shay, Mrs. Clara Darnell, and Miss Kate Cronin. One son Frank, died several years ago.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church.

Ruth Butterworth (Briggs Clark ) was born on 23rd of April 1817 in Stalybridge, Lancashire, England to James and Mary Fielding Butterworth, she first married John Briggs about 1835, they had 7 children
Eliza, James, Thomas, Sarah Ann, Mary Hannah, Rachel, and Emma. On their migration to Great Salt Lake City, Utah with the Martin Handcart Company the family was met with great a tragedy, her husband and two of their children-Thomas and Mary Hannah, died of starvation, frostbite and total exhaustion as the handcart company was hit by an early snowstorm, and better coldness. They were in the area of what is now called Devil's Gate Wyoming. Ruth and the other children continued on the trek to Salt Lake after being rescued from the men of Salt Lake. the family was taken in and cared for possibly by the Benjamin Thomas Clark family, whom Ruth married afterwards, they had one child Lavinia Alice Clark, who was born June 2 1858 and died a few months after her Mother in November of 1860, Ruth passed away about 6 August 1860, in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. She is buried in the Salt Lake Cemetery, Plot 1158 Section E-6-3. I think she died because of complications of her recent childbirth and the exposure from 1856.

Thomas Darnall's parents died when he was a baby. His Mother Elizabeth Marion Darnall on July 18, 1848 and his Father Amos Edge Darnall July 20, 1848 in Clark County, Illinois. I think he was raised by his Aunt Sarah Darnall Martin Smith. As Thomas was listed in a census as living with the family. I think this is why Thomas & Mollie adopted his nephew and niece, Cassius and Anna Drucilla-so they wouldn't grow up without parents, I don't know why the other children of Elijah and Missouri were not adopted by them also, only can think that's because they were older and Cassius & Anna were the youngest children. 2006
