laxie on Family Tree Circles

Im trying to trace my dads family.
His granddad was from Scotland. He was George or Joseph Robinson.
He was in the Scottish Regiment and went to South Africa during the Boer War ( he was in his 20s)He married a Dutch girl called Anna. We think my dads father- joseph Stephen was their eldest child but we aren't sure! We have no other family who we can ask as my dad is the last one alive-that we know of! He is 60 next year and we would love to be able to tell him something about his family.............
If anyone has any advice/pointers I would really appreciate it.
