McLean, Fraser, Cantrell, Gilroy et al research interests

Canadian descendant of McLeans and McMillan's of Campbeltown, Argyll; Frasers and McKenzies of Cawdor, Nairnshire & Iverness; McKinlays, Forbes and Wisemans of Elgin, Nairnshire; Harpers of Cornwall, England, Orrs of Islay, Argyll and Gilroys and Cantrels of Ireland. I welcome contact from anyone researching with similar research interests. Following is a brief summary of some of the people in my tree however I have considerably more information on other linkages and lineages.

Maternal G grandfather, Donald Fraser, emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1871. Born in Cawdor, Nairnshire in 1843 to John Fraser & Mary McKenzie, he apprenticed as a blacksmith, married Helen (Ellen) McKinley, daughter of James McKinley master blacksmith of Elgin and Mary Wiseman and immigrated to Canada in 1871. Helen followed in 1872 with two children, Robert and James; neither survived to adulthood. Donald and brother John came to Canada at or around the same time; James, a younger brother emigrated to USA later and was living in the Buffalo, NY area when Donald died in 1937. Donald and Helen had at least 8 children, but only three lived to have families of their own: Colin Fraser (m Ada Garnett, m Alberta Forsythe) of Englehart, ON, Helen Fraser (m James Gordon) of Billings Twp, Manitoulin Island, and Randolph Fraser (m Janet Harper) of Billings Twp., Manitoulin Island. Donald's father, my GGF via maternal lineage was John Fraser, resident in Brackna, Nairnshire at the time of his marriage to Mary McKenzie, my GGM via maternal lineage.

Paternal G grandfather, Neil McLean immigrated to Canada from Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland between 1841-50's. Neil was the son of Allan and Elizabeth McLean (both surnames McLean) who had 9+ children. It is believed most of the family, including Allan and Elizabeth, immigrated to Canada at the same time. Neil married Sarah Jane Cantrell, in 1851 in Canada. (Sarah Jane was born in Ireland). They originally settled in St. Vincent Twp, Grey County and moved to Manitoulin Island in 1873. Neil and Sarah had 9 children including my grandfather, Donald McLean. Donald married Minnie Etta Gilroy, daughter of James Gilroy.
