Karijntje on Family Tree Circles

It seems my family comes to a stand still.
My census records do not list exactly what I am looking for.
My grandfather (deceased) always talked about that he was from Olive Hill, Kentucky. I find slight different records with correct names but not dates. I know census are fallable but I am really fustrated at the dead ends.
Can anyone tell me about the families Thompson in Carter County Kentucky. Also my great grandpa married a GALLIHUE or GOLLIHUE x2
