He married HARRIET SPEARMAN and he died in Dec 1919 in Clovelly. His father was JAMES BATE and James was the father of Richard Bate my Great Grandfather. Richard came to Capetown South Africa and remarried.

Iam from South Africa. Looking for George Washington GOETHALS orginally called GOEDHALS.

Is well known as he built the Panama Canal. I want to trace his Father and brothers. I think one of his brothers came to South Africa and that is my paternal line of descent.

Perhaps someone out there can help me please??
