Murrays of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire

James Murray, b.1881-1961 and Catherine Maud Newman, b.1881-1975 were married 3rd June 1904 in Aberdeen. James was apparently illeg. born in Peterhead, his parents were James Thomson Murray and Jessie Ann Murray (her maiden name!) she was a school teacher. I can't find much in the way of info on James Thomson Murray, except that he was a grocer's assistant, which in itself suggests he was young. Jessie was b.Mar. 1860. Murray is a very common name in the NE of Scotland. Jessie Ann's parents were Walter Murray, a blacksmith and Eleanor/Helen Lunan who were married 29 May 1841 in Aberdour. And there I am stuck. (for now anyway)

The Aberdeenshire Chalmers

I have John Chalmers b.c1810 at Monymusk (?) was a Lance Sargeant with the 21st Fusilier Guards. Who was his father ? I found a John Chalmers who died of diarhea at Scutari in Jan. 1855 but he was a corporal with the Grenadier Guards. Are they completely different units? And is a corporal under a lance sargeant ?? Maybe he was demoted ???
