AN-106: NASHVILLE, DAVIDSON COUNTY, TN.
Original Location. 1721 Murfreesboro Road (now Old Murfreesboro Road)

History of Gotto Family Cemetery, was submitted, on May 29, 2005, to the
Davidson County Cemetery Survery project, by Jim Gotto.

Three family members were buried in the Gotto Cemetery. Submitted by Jim Gotto.

Antonio Gotto.
Born January 8, 1809
Birthplace: Italy or Sicily
Died March 12, 1912
Undertaker: Wiles and Karsh Co.

? He was my Great Grandfather and migrated to the United States from Genoa, Italy, when he was about 19 years old. This would have been about 1827 or 1828. I understand that at some point, he returned to Genoa and brought his brother back (two, I think).

I have no additional information about him until when in 1860, according to his obituary, he was in Honduras and witnessed the execution of William Walker by the Honduran Government.

By the time of the Civil War, he had settled near Murfreesboro and in 1864, he purchased a piece of land on Murfreesboro Road (now 1721 Old Murfreesboro Road) from Jacob McGavock, Jr.

The house, which may or may not have been there when the land was purchased, was originally two log rooms with a dog trot between them. The house was added on to many times and I was the fourth generation that lived there and the third to be raised there. Unfortunately, we had to sell the property after my father died so the house is gone.

Antonio Gotto was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in downtown and attended once a year.

He was a stone mason by trade and worked on the State Capitol, the culverts and other masonry structures on the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway.

He worked until he was about 93. When he was 94, he walked from his home on Murfreesboro Road to Belle Meade and back.?

Mary Jane Montgomery Gotto
Born May 16, 1834
Died ca. 1907
Wife of Antonio Gotto

?After the house was sold, the graves of Antonio Gotto and his wife Mary Jane Montgomery Gotto were relocated to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN. Section 12 on the Fox family plot

.? According to Jim Gotto, ? Aunt Mary Fox was a granddaughter of Antonio & Mary Jane Gotto and she had provided a spot on their family plot for her grandparents before she passed away in 1970.?

Infant Grandson of Antonio Gotto 1917 ?1918
Grave relocated to Mt. Olivet Cemetery on east side.
