BROOKS of Stratford

Query by rivpharm

My great, great grandfather Philip Cannil Brooks was born in Stratford in 1831 according to the 1871 census. I do not know who his parents or siblings were. Any information would be gladly accepted. He married Elizabeth Annie Creed in London in 1850/1. They had 4 daughters.

This has been largely updated inn the interim to January 2014.
He married Frances Clark at St Pancras Aug 6, 1851 but there are not further records of her.
His first child was Rebecca Creed who always treated Phillip as her father. Elizabeth Annie Creed was the mother of the other daughters - hettie, Phyllis, Euphemia,Georgina, Caroline & Kate Louise.Georgina died as a child. Phillip died in 1876 with Elizabeth Annie by his side & not in different circumstances as the Australian descendants family legend has it. Rebecca married James Armond & was the mother of his children. She died & kate Louise became their stepmother. I do have further info obtained from England. Caroline Emma married Dugald McKenzie McLachlan at Liverpool in 1891 & migrated to Australia in 1913

I have found a problem with the marriage to Elizabeth Annie Creed. The only Philip Brooks who got married in 1850 or 1851 was Philip Cannell Brooks who married Frances Clark 6 Aug 1850 Old Church,Saint Pancras,London,England (District of St Pancras Vol 1 p357).

I have also checked all marriages concerning Elizabeth Creed in England from 1850 to 1876 and there is no marriage to anyone with the surname Brooks.

You may need to revisit your info.
