Cook of Russell NZ

Journal by erico

The Cook family were whalers and have a long history of settlement in NZ.
William Cook from Plymouth in the UK he came to NZ in the 1820's
I have a fairly comprehensive family tree and would like to add to it.
On my side of the family I was born in Amsterdam on 25 January 1946.
I got a good headstart on the family tree from Albert Oudijn in Ridderkerk and
have added quite a lot more data. The Dutch records are fantastic and unlike most
of the large genealogy sites, most sites in the Netherlands are free to use.
I'll add more to my journal and answer any questions from now on.

When did the first Cook family settle in Kororareka ?
Which Cook was it? his wife & children?
Considering the settlement became known as the 'Hell Hole of the Pacific' the women, especially, must have been made of tough stuff
