Hello I Found a Marriage Record on This Site of a John Collis Marrying a Mary Lillian Gannon IN 1915 Would the Location of the Marriage Have Been...
There is a record of a John Gannon marrying a Margaret Maher in 1889 in the Victoria-Australia records. I am wondering if this could be my grandfather, John Gannon, born in 1869 in Hokitika, NZ, then moved to Melbourne in 1889 and worked as a tailor. He married, had a daughter, became widowed, then returned to NZ in 1903 before emigrating to Ireland and marrying my grandmother. From NZ census records, I deducted his daughter's name was Mary Lillian May Gannon. I would appreciate any information! Thanks
hi Maureen,
the entry is on this journal Collis marriages NZ
Mary Lillian Gannon was born in 1891 and died in 1991 at around 100. Does this sound like the Mary you are looking for?
John & Mary had a son, 1916-1994 Selwyn Michael John Collis. Is he of the family you are looking for?
and yes, John & Mary are buried at Mangaweka
Maureen I replied to your private message. If you are not sure how to see your messages it will be highlighted up in the right-hand corner of this page when you receive one. I also added a photo of Mary's headstone at Mangaweka in the journal of the "Collis marriages" if you want to have a look
Thank you, so much for this information. I believe that this is my grandfather's daughter. Do you have any information about her husband, John. Their marriage date? I will try to search for her grandchildren. The headstone shows she also had a child named Desma. Where should I look? Was Selwyn born in Mangaweka? Thank you again!!
I have sent you a private message with the link to their gravesites
Here they are here Mary Lillian Collis (nee Gannon) with links to her husband John Collis at Mangaweka and children:
(buried Waikaraka)
(married Robert Harding) and buried with him at Taihape
Leave them flowers :)
yes, Maureen, their marriage date is on the first link I added above (at the original journal). Keep an eye on that journal as I will add updates as found
Hi Maureen I just came across this question and am wandering if you have found what you are looking for? Mary Gannon is my great great grandmother, her son Selwyn is my papas father. Do not hesitate to ask if you still want more info.
Hello Pinkrobe7,
Ngairedith dug up a lot of information for me! But this means we are related. Mary Gannon was my mother’s half sister. My mum turns 90 next week. Could you contact me privately at mhinton86@gmail.com
Cheers, Maureen
