janilye on 2011-05-31 22:24:34Just google 'John de la Chaumette' (Shumate) He was the first Huguenot of that line to arrive in Virginia. There are several sites online devoted to this family.
John was born in 1705 in London and died in Virginia in 1784.
Englishman Nicholas HAYWARD paid for his and the passage of many Huguenot's to Virginia.
There is a Huguenot Library in London, England with lists of all the migrants. I think there were 4 shiploads.
