Murphy Family of County Kilkenny

Article by murphdog822

My 2nd Great Grandfather left Co. Kilkenny, Ireland in the late 1860s to come to America. He settled in Moore County, NC and married Mary Jane Williams, a native of the county. They later moved to Guilford County, NC where many of his descendants still reside. I am seeking information regarding the Murphy family of Ireland. I believe Thomas came from Gowran, County Kilkenny. Thomas Murphy (21 Dec 1848-26 Nov 1909) had according to my information, at least 3 siblings: Michael (b. 29 Mar 1842), Margaret (b. 28 May 1844) and Denis (b. 26 Aug 1846). I believe their parents were Patrick Murphy (b. Feb 1819), and Annie Fox (1823-1886). Any info prior to this generation is sketchy at best and that is what I am seeking. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am a great granddaughter of Thomas Murphy. My grandfather was his son, Thomas Foster Murphy. I am also trying to find out more about this side of my family. I have not been able to find anything prior to Patrick or Annie (who it said was actually named Anastatia. I am also curious about the brother who emigrated with Thomas in 1866. My grandmother was under the impression that he went on to Australia after Thomas came here. Do you have any information on him by any chance?
