Looking for information about Amelia Voak and John Grant Walsh , married Dec 1875 in Greytown, New Zealand

Query by mustang61

I have hit a brick wall trying to find the parentage of Amelia Voak and John Grant Walsh. I believe that John Walsh arrived in NZ aboard the vessel "Collingwood" in 1875. This vessel was put into quarantine on arrival due to scarlet fever aboard. There was also a family aboard with the surname "Voak" so I'm wondering if that is how they met?

Birth Death and Marriages NZ shows that they had two daughters and one son. Amelia gave her name as "Mary Amelia" for the births of her daughters, but only "Amelia" for her son's birth and her own marriage.

Amelia died aged 46 on the 23 Oct 1906. I am wondering if she originated in Surrey, England which is where the other "Voak" family aboard "Collingwood" came from.

John Grant Walsh's obituary in April 1926 stated that he was born in County Tyrone, Ireland and that he had arrived about 51 years earlier. He learned milling in his father's mills in Ireland(dealing in flour and flax), which were still being run by his brothers. I believe he was politically active, being secretary of the Auckland Flour Millers' Union.

I believe he had an elder brother who was a resident in Tasmania who died two months before he did in 1926.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amelia Voak was born Bridget Mary Voak on 11th Nov 1858 in Penge, Surrey, England. She was the daughter of William Henry Voak and Margaret Deasy. Having been widowed, Margaret travelled on the Collingwood with her brother Micheal Deasy.

Margaret Deasy married upon arrival in NZ to William Thompson Todd. They had two boys together.
In 1879 there was a Court case in Timaru where Todd was charged with failing to provide lawful necessaries for his wife and four children.

John Grant Walsh came from Annagarvey in County Tyrone, Ireland. His father was Robert Walsh and his mother was Margaret Grant. He had 11 siblings. I have learnt that one sister also came to NZ, 2 siblings went to Australia , 1 went to USA and 1 to England.

I believe that Amelia/Bridget Voak and her sister Margaret are buried in Purewa Cemetary in Auckland in the same row.
