DEATH.

Name: Thomas Holmes JUSTICE.
Died: 1928 South Yarra, Victoria.
Age: 91 years.
Father: John Bolton JUSTICE.
Mother: Elizabeth Courtney WEBB.
Reg #7828.

Going by age at death Thomas was born circa 1837.
There was a T JUSTICE arrived in Melbourne on the "Brewster" in July 1859
and his age was given as 22 years, giving his birth year as circa 1837.

There was also an R JUSTICE arrived on the same ship aged 29 years.
I have a feeling this was the Robert George JUSTICE married to Margaret CUNNINGHAM in 1862. Robert and Margaret named two of their children
Thomas Holmes JUSTICE and John Bolton JUSTICE and they were born in Jamieson.

Thomas and Robert may have been brothers.

The Brewster was an American ship. Sailed here from New York. Arrived around the middle of the year. I'll look into it for you.

by janilye on 2015-12-12 10:34:33

The Brewster sailed into Hobson's Bay on the 2 July 1859. Left New York on the 17th. March. There is only a passenger list for the first cabin =
Mrs. Hunt, Messrs Hunt, Hill, Elliott, Newcombe and Stebbings.
There were twenty-four in steerage. (No Names) The agents were Wilkinson, Brothers and Co.
So Thomas and Robert were in steerage. Or perhaps crew. The cargo was 600 barrels of Haxall, which is flour from the Haxall mill in Richmond, Virginia.

THOMAS HOLMES Jr born 1803 and christened in MALLOW. This THOMAS qualified as a doctor in EDINBURGH in 1825 , and as M.R.C.S.E. in 1826. He practiced as doctor and surgeon .He was MEDICAL OFFICER of MALLOW FEVER HOSPITAL during the potatoe famine 1845/1850. Many Irish emigrated immediately following the famine.
