I was familiar with the names of Hannah Brodziak and Joseph. They landed here in Maryborough (Qld), which I learnt through our local library. Until now I was unsure of which generation they were. At the time of their marriage I believe Queensland was still part of N.S.W. which explains the Sydney registration of their marriage.

This is Herman Schureck's wedding I believe the guest list might have a few useful names for you. Besides it looks like it was a very lovely June wedding and anyone who was anyone was there.

A pretty wedding took place last evening at the Jerwish Synagogue, when Mr Herman Schureck, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Schureck, Lowood, was married to Miss Rose Keller, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Keller, Breslau, Germany. Rabbi Phillips conducted the service. The bride wore a beautiful gown of white crepe de Chine over white satin charmeuse, the fully trained skirt being arranged with alternate panels of crepe de Chine, very handsome Limerick lace, and satin, and the bodice was veiled with similar lace to that on the skirt. She wore an embroidered tulle veil and coronet of orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful bridal bouquet. Her amethyst bangle was a gift from the bridegroom.
Miss E. Schureck (sister of the bridegroom) acted as bridesmaid, and wore a very pretty frock of vieux rose satin striped crystal line over chiffon taffeta of the same shade. The bodice was very handsomely braided, and showed a tiny round vest of cream lace.
Her vieux rose satin straw hat was beautified with blonde lace and, shaded roses. Her gold bangle was a gift from the bridegroom.
Mr. R. Bennett acted as best man. After the ceremony the guests drove to a city cafe, where a very recherche wedding breakfast was served.
The tables were very artistically ornamented with bridal flowers, and in the centre of the table was a three-tier wedding cake.
The usual toasts were honoured, and at the conclusion of the breakfast several dances were enjoyed.

The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. L. Schureck was celebrated with a family dinner party, given by one of their daughters. Mrs. F. S. Bennett.
at the Hotel Canberra on May 11. The couple were married in London in 1884, and several years later they came out to Australia. They are now residing at Shire Street, Coorparoo.
Of the marriage there are two daughters and three sons. At the celebration the party included Mr. and Mrs. R. Schureck, Mr. C. Schureck, Mr. and Mrs. J. Schofield, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Bennett, and two grandsons Messrs. A. and C. Bennett.

janilye, what a wonderful find you have sent me! Whenever I have found newspaper leads they have been only in the classifieds and very difficult to follow.
The addresses of the guests have given me a lead to possibly join the Schurecks I have found previously in Lowood and Boonah. We were told as children that 5 brothers came to Australia but it seems there were settlements all over the country. Quite a fertile mob it seems. My father met a cousin, Ralph, as a result of both their mothers' funeral notices. Apparently both mothers had similar initials or names. Ralph will be very interested in all I have learnt from the helpful people on here.

I know Myeris a common name throughout the Jewish community but if you read the Bennett Schureck wedding guest list there are a few Myer's there (spelt MYER). I will have a search for Alan during the course of the day. After reading about this close knit jewish family I think I can understand how back then Alan would have been 'put on the coat' as we would say. Whatever I find I will tag 'Schureck,Queensland ' to make it easier for you to search.

The article above that janilye found is one of many for the Schureck family, there is a very interesting one for L Schureck Store in Lowood it lists the shop as an agency for the "Courier" it has a photo as well.

I found Julius and Hannah Schureck in the 1905 Australian Census living at 555 Main Street Kangaroo Point, occupation Merchant

Alan Meyer & Constance Edith in 1930 Australian Census were living at 106 O.S.H. Road Vaucluse (I presume it means Old Sydney Heads Road) occupation Traveller.

Looks like Joseph had at least three brothers

So much information! If my sister ever sends me the papers showing the birth, death, marriage of my grandparents life will be much easier I think.
Janilye, it seems the fire may have been one of the other relatives' shop unless Joseph had changed businesses. He was originally in Queen Street and his 'jobs' were garment and napery manufacture.
I am not surprised at Alan's bankruptcy! Before his death my father told me his father had died, not from a heart attack as we had thought, but sclerosis of the liver. I seem to remember something about a gambling habit but am unsure.
Connie/Edie was from a rather well-to-do family I think. Uncle Ernie was an MP I believe and one of my father's cousins has been a long serving MP as well.
At various times my grandmother lived in WA ans SA as well as NSW. She worked for a Melbourne firm when I was a child, from an office in Sydney.
Looks like I need to buy some documents, doesn't it!
