Looking for the McGEE family of western North Carolina

Query by srpeterson1

There are a lot of McGee's of western North Carolina, but I am looking for the parents of William McGee, born @1805 in North Carolina, lived in Burke County (1840 U.S. Census), Yancey County (1850 Census), McDowell County 1860 & 1870 Census) and Mitchell County (1880 Census)... I believe he lived in the same area, with just county formations changed. He was married to Mary Swann, born @1814 Burke County, NC, died after 1880 Census, in Mitchell County, NC, daughter of John Burch Swann & Polly Walker of McDowell County, NC. Their children were: Bryson McGee 1837-1913, Anne E. born @1837, John McGee (deaf) b. 1839, Martha Caroline (Ollis) 1842-1915, Abram 1847-1916, Gillie (Parsons) 1849-1916, Isaac W. 1854-1930.

I have followed David McGee's (of Wilkes County) line and cannot find a link. I have also had 2 DNA matches to the McGehee's of Franklin, VA but cannot find the link. I found a page in the McDowell County, NC that listed the pioneers who came into McDowell County just after the Revolutionary War (after 1783) and it lists "Bryson McGhee" but I haven't been able to find further information about this Bryson. The fact that William named his eldest son "Bryson" is a possible link to this pioneer Bryson. Also, there was an Abraham/Abram McGhee who lived in McDowell County. He was born @1812 and died 1867. He had a sons named William and Isaac. My William had sons named Isaac and Abram. I believe they were either brothers or cousins, but there is no proof of parentage of either of them.

Any help would be appreciated.
