MASTERTON PROMOTION EXAMINATION 1908
from NZETC written 1908 ... THE MASTERTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL was established as a primary school in the early days of the settlement, and was constituted a District High School in the year 1902. The building stands on a site six acres in extent at the south end of the town, and has a frontage to both Queen and Chapel streets. There is also a side school in Victoria street. The secondary department is a large brick building, and includes science and cookery rooms, and there are also extensive playgrounds and school gardens. The present roll contains about 900 names. The teaching staff consists of Mr. W. H. Jackson (head-master), thirteen assistant teachers, and six pupil teachers
