... Looking for info on Hellyer family in New Zealand, specifically Alice and Muritai.
Alice is my grandmother on my mother's side, she married Arthur Stephen Ede, I am waiting for their marriage certificate to arrive. I know lots about my father's side of the family, Drummond, but little about Mum's. Supposedly Peter Ustinov is a relation through the Ede side, previously Edenstein. Anything will be helpful - this is all new to me ...

- married Elizabeth Betsy Le MASURIER 1814, St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands
- died Xmas Eve 1840 in Jersey, Channel Islands

a son of Robert & Elizabeth, PHILLIPPE SAMUEL HELLYER (1818-1899)
- born St Helier, Jersey, Channel Island
- he married Elizabeth BISSON (1815-1856)
- they had 8 children, some of whom came to New Zealand
- he remarried to Rachel MACHON (1835-1890) (2nd wife)
- they had 10 childen whoe descendants feature here ..
- Phillippe died 6 December 1899 in Dunedin

a son of Philippe & Rachel, GEORGE CHARLES HELLYER (1861-1924)
- born St Heliers, Jersey, emigrated when he was about 13
- he married Mary Ann McDONALD (1861-1902) on 27 April 1893 in Andersons Bay Dunedin
- in 1924 they were living at 1 Queen's Drive, Dunedin
- Mary Ann died aged 41 and is buried in Block 10. Plot 12 at Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin with husband George and son Sydney, also (her possibly mother) Isabella McDonald (1841-1921)

- married Charles Young ESPLIN (1893-1966) in 1913
- Charles was a son of David ESPLIN (1849-1931) & Wilhelmina HUNTER (1849-1935) of Walter St, Dunedin (David & Wilhelmina were from Forfar, Angus, Scotland, arriving in Otago on the "Auckland" in 1875 with 2 children, they had 7 more children in NZ and also raised their granddaughter, Violet Alexandrina Fanny Esplin, who was 1 of 3 illegitimate children of their daughter Betsy)
- Ruby died in Dunedin aged 26
- Charles remarried in 1924 to Ruby Amelia COX (1901-1965)

1895 - 1958 Ronald McDonald Hellyer
- born in Dunedin
- married Nellie Isabella FARQUHAR (1898-1934) in 1922
- Nellie was 1 of 10 children of George FARQUHAR & Isabella Strachan WAUGH
- Ronald died in Dunedin aged 63

1898 - 1975 Muritai Flora Hellyer
- born in Dunedin
- married Arthur James SPENCER (1895-1989) in 1923
- Muritai died in Dunedin aged 77

1899 - 1990 Rachel Ogilvie Hellyer
- born in Dunedin
- married Keith MENZIES (1902-1970) in 1925
- died in Dunedin aged 90

1902 - 1927 Sydney George Hellyer
- Sydney was a railway Cleaner & lived at Waikari, Dunedin
- Sydney died aged 25

- he died in 10 Gray St, Musselburgh, Dunedin aged 74
- Margaret died in Dunedin aged 84

- Arthur was the 5th of 18 children of Edward EDE & Clara Elizabeth ALSOP who married in 1878
- (Edward Ede was a son of Benjamn & Amy Ede)
- possible Arthur & Alice went farming in Ashburton
- Alice died aged 74

1896 - 1970 Joseph John Hellyer
- born in Dunedin
- in the 1922 Electoral Roll Joseph was at 32 High St, St Kilda, Dunedin as a Butcher
- married Margaret Law GARDNER (1897-1965) in 1924
- he died in Dunedin aged 74
- both buried Dunedin

1897 - 1990 Christina Clementine Hellyer
- born in Dunedin
- married William Henry 'Harry' OSMAND?OSMOND (1892-1963)
- in the 1922 Electoral Roll Christina was at 34 high St, St Kilda, Dunedin as a Spinster
- Christina died at her home, 31 Cranston St, Dunedin, aged 92. Her ashes are buried Block 6. Plot 41 at Andersons Bay Cemetery with parents William & Margaret Hellyer
