Frederick Tootell (1837-1908)
- born 3 May 1837 in Nottinghamshire
- 10th of 14 chilren of Frederick TOOTELL & Mary BURTON
- emmigrated to Australia at the age of 18, arriving in Melbourne on the "MARCO POLO" 6 Dec 1856. He left Melbourne for Otago, New Zealand on the "MATILDA" arriving 8 Dec 1861
- Frederick was a Painter in Naseby, Otago
- married Emma Keturah YARNOLD (1843-1905) 17 Oct 1866 in Waikouaiti Parish
- Emma was born in Corsham, Wiltshire, England
- 4th of 9 children of William YARNOLD & Elizabeth ASHE, Wiltshire England
- known children of Frederick & Emma were:

Frederick Tootell died in the Benevolent Instituton, Otago March 1908 aged 70

EVENING POST - 6 August 1931
... CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Admitting six charges of theft of handbags, involving 30, (about $3000 in Aug 2011) Alice Beatrice Tootell (38), a married woman, was sentenced to six months imprisonment by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M. According to the police the accused was a bag snatcher who workedto a system, but tried it once too often

Children Alice 1868, Frederick 1869-1875, Annie 1870-1937, Edith Mary 1873-1873, Edith Sarah 1874-1874, Charles William Yarnold 1876-1926, Victoria Julia Yarnold 1877, Lily Agnes Mary 1879 and Emma Keturah 1884.

Frederick's brothers John TOOTELL 1822-1888 and Jacob TOOTELL 1828-xxxx, were passengers on the Indian which arrived in Adelaide 7 August 1849.
Frederick who gave his occupation as a digger, arrived in Port Chalmers, New Zealand in on the 8 December 1861 from Melbourne, on the ship Matilda. I haven't worked out when he arrived in Melbourne he was on the census in England in 1851 as an errand boy but does not appear again in 1861.
I think this F TOOTELL (below)is him as I don't see another.
