George Washington Culbreth-Georgia

I am stuck on trying to find the parents of George Washington Culbreth (my grandfather). He was born in 1857-1858. All of the census data shows Georgia as his birthplace. I first find him im the 1880 census in Dodge County Georgia.
My sister told me that he was one of seven children and that was all she knew. A distant cousin(we think) told me she thought he was born in North Carolina, because his brother, her great grandfather, was born in North Carolina.
I found a GWC, born in NC in 1857, who was one of seven children. I thought I had found my connection. He was listed in the 1860 and 1870 census in NC. Then I connected with someone from that family whose aunt had written a family history which does not include my grandfater. There is another George listed, born a year later and with a different middle name.
Then I got an email from a lady who told me that was the wrong connection and got me looking in Georgia again.

This is driving me nuts!
