Daniel Wallace Murphy

Daniel Wallace Murphy is believed to have immigrated from County Cork, Ireland, year unknown. Had several brothers (including John & Timothy) and a sister (named, I believe, Mary). I believe the remainder of his family settled in the Boston area; he had one niece named Adelaide Fitzgerald in Mass. DW changed his surname from Murphy to Barker (believed to be his sister's surname by marriage)prior to marrying my great grandmother, for reasons unclear, but it appears that most of his family was unaware of this name change until after his death. DW was a merchant seaman who ported out of Savannah &/or Darien and had owned pilot boats at one point. He married Ada Clark Bailey of Savannah, whose father was Arthur Bailey originally from Antrim, Ireland. DW was lost at sea off the coast of Cape Hatteras in late fall 1889 en route to England, apparently due to an unpredicted late season hurricane. Any help obtained in tracing the geneology of my great grandfather Daniel Wallace Murphy(aka Daniel Wallace Barker)will be appreciated.

Matheson of South Carolina or Georgia

Looking for relatives of Christopher Stoney Matheson who married Thomas Ellen Baker (a member of the Thorpe family). Had 2 children, Murdock Pratt and Irene (Irene married Lacy Sheffler - ?sp?)while living in either Savannah or Darien, Ga. Ellen died in or shortly after childbirth with Irene; children were raised by maternal grandparents, I believe in Darien. Stoney fought in the Spanish American War and was an itinerant bookkeeper by trade. Murdock Pratt Matheson was my grandfather.
