Looking for HITT of Alabama

New Info! I started researching the unit Maberry (my gggrandfather) was in during the civil war. There is info on almost every unit that came from AL, his was the 51st calvary. I've found where the unit was started, the commanders, and a long narrative about the battles and skirmishes they were involved in....and muster rolls!!!
Also new: I already knew he enlisted in 1862 and was wounded at some point. Now I've found out (a different source) where it says he was sick, not injured. This is from a book I found in the Cullman Co, AL, library entitled: "History of St. Clair County AL."

Hitt, Maberry Detailed as Garrison Guard at Marietta, GA, from Sep 1863 to Feb 1864 by Captain Edwards. Sick furlough since the 6th Feb, 1864. Unfit for field duty. Report to General Wright at Atlanta. S.O. 90/4 dated Apri 1, 1864. So much for being a wounded war hero, right? I wonder what he was sick from...Does anyone know what the S.O. 90/4 mean?

I was very excited because this is the only other place (besides Footnote) where I've even seen him mentioned!!! Still looking!

Looking for HITT of Alabama

Well, I've been looking for this guy for about 10 years now. Where to begin? I THINK he (Maberry HITT) was born in 1823 in Laurens County, South Carolina (cannot confirm). I got that info from someone else's research. The first time I find him for sure is in the Civil war. I've found the actual documents---he was in the 51st partisan rangers (calvary) formed in Alabama. Before the war, he had married Arena Crouch from Muscogee Co, GA (again, info is from other people) and had 2 or 3 children. Then she died and after the war he marries again...Clara Copelandfrom Jefferson County, AL. They move to Blount Co, AL ad have children, one of which was my ggrandfather, Pinkie H. Hitt. I have looked at the Blount Co courthouse...cannot find when he died. Clara is buried at Mt. Tabor cemetery in Blount Co near where I live, (I've seen her tombstone, it reads, Clara, wife of Maberry, died 1892). No help there. Maberry is not beside her. Two spaces down there is a cement block---maybe thats him. Anyway---- Someone please help!!!!
I cannot find any info about the Hitt family-almost none being in this county---except where he paid taxes. How do I find where he was born and who his parents were?
Any info is much appreciated---I have more info, will post more later if anyone is interested.
Thanks
Renee Ryan

Searching for HITT family

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I will write more later; however, here is the short story. I've been researching my mother's side of the family for about 3 years....got as far as my gggrandfather...Maberry Hitt. He was supposed to have been born in South Carolina in 1823, I cannot confirm this. Can't find when he died, I know he lived in Blount County, AL, (close to where I live) in the 1870's, 1880's. What I would really like to find are his parents. I've seen different people listed as his parents, but none can be confirmed. So if you like a challenge, you can help me! Here's my line: Renee Ryan (me), my mother was Nell Hitt Williams, her father was James Manley Hitt, his father was Pinkie H. Hitt, and his father was Maberry Hitt. I know he was in the civil war; I have document copies. So, any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Renee
