My name is Derrick Dieter Wendel. I am first generation Canadian. My father is Hans Wendel born July 30, 1926 in Prokuls, Memel which is where his mother (last name Wendel first name unknown and his father unknown)lived and died. Hans was raised by his grandfather (his mother's father)August Wendel who died in Memel, June 12, 1947. Apparently August Wendel had 13 daughters, no sons. Apparently lawyers connected to Wendel in New York were in contact with August regarding possible inheritance prior to WW2 but turmoil in Memel during that time interrupted communication which did not continue after August Wendel passed.

Hans Wendel had many many cousins who fled Memel in the mid 40s due to political turmoil. Interesting history. Most lost touch with each other. Apparently the cousins relocated all over world. I know of 2 cousins in the United States and one in Canada. There was a Marietta in Flagler's Beach Florida and an Adam in I believe Chicago. I never knew the last names of the American cousins, the Canadian cousin who was very close to Hans was Eimel Preikcas (not sure of spelling). I know information is very sparse but I have two younger brothers, Edward William and Rhonald Autor, a son, Nathan Wendel, who has a son, Jackson Wendel and I am trying to connect with any family that is out there.
