I just visited Bielefeld and Dortmund to find out more about the Wurm ancestors who left in the 1850s.

Today the hotel ran out of bacon, the only cappuccino was do it yourself and I had to pay to use the Internet. I think it would take more than that to decide to leave your home, your culture, your language.

What did they think South Australia would be like 18 years after colonisation?

What was it like? Better than they thought or worse than they could have imagined? How did they survive? Did they learn English before they came? Why South Australia and not New South Wales, South America or Canada?
