Biography/Interests

I have been researching my family tree since 1991 after taking over from my Great Uncle James William Prosser. The Wharton's are on my mother's side.

I spent many years going round in circles until some of my mother's relations contacted us. They gave me some information that helped a lot. I then subscribed to Ancestry.com and things took off a little.

Then I hit a road block again on all sides of the family. So on 12th November 2006 I joined Genesreunited. Within two hours I had 3 contacts and from one I found my Great Great Great Grandfather Prosser's name- Thomas. I then hit another road block as he went to the USA sometime between 1831 and 1841 when his wife and my GG Grandfather appear on the 1841 Welsh census and then again in 1851 when she had remarried and appeared on both as a widow. After 4 hours I had 79 contacts the just the odd one until late November when I got another 96. What a site. OK many didn't match but quite a few did and have opened new avenues to research.

We have Weatherson's of Hartlepool & Southampton, Paterson's of Northumberland and Eyemouth and Wharton's of Eyemouth and Hull where I live.

It's an expensive business but I love it and the information is mind boggling. I have a GG Aunt who spent 64 years in an institution just for being born out of wedlock.

I have a GG Grandfather who was a Consul to the Columbian Government. Two relations - Tom Elliott & Nan who worked on penicillin with Alexander Fleming. Tom took a position as Nuclear Correspondent at a Technical School in Singapore. He was an adviser to Lee Kuan You, Prime Minister of Singapore until his death in 1985.

Another was a nun for many years and she was one of 17 children.

We do have a Lord Bell married Maria Small in the family although I've had trouble sorting this one out early 1900,s.

That's it for now.

Looking For Whartons

Looking for relatives of James Wharton born 1864 in Bishop Auckland and married Mary Ann Weatherston (various spellings Weathurston, Weatherson, Weatherstun, a lot of confusion).
