Looking for Wati, Te Mana Whakahau, Te Mana Retimana, Te Mana Paurini, Retimana te Huakiwi, Huakiwi, Hinau Wharekura.

My grandfather on my dad's side was Whakahau Tipene Wati, (aka Roy Wattie snr many moons ago).
His father was Te Mana Retimana, aka Te Mana Whakahau, aka Te Mana Retimana Paurini.

Te Mana Whakahau, I have found in a list connected to Patuheuheu Marae, Ngati Haka, Waiohou.
Here I also found mention of my grandfather, Whakahau, his siblings, brothers Kopa and Muka and sister, Te Ao.
There was also another name, Ngawai Wati. I am really baffled as to who she is as this is the first connection
I have found to the Wati name.

Wati is my family name but it was changed to Wattie somewhere along the way although not all whanau members
changed the way it was written. It is only through searching on the internet and the help of a small hand full
of relations met through my search that I know anything.

Great grandfather Te Mana's father was Retimana Te Huakiwi, Tuhourangi/Tapuika. I have found a trail of land
and history through little shareholdings in lands passed down to us after dad died. They are anchors
for our whanau, that keep us connected to the land and help me in my search.

Retimana's father is reported to be Huakiwi or even Te Huakiwi. I found a Huakiwi in the South Island in
whakapapa connected to Kokoroiti Rewhanga also known as Ellen Workman. His wife recorded here was
Tumapuhia. I wouldn't mind knowing if this is the same Huakiwi in my whakapapa as I can find no trace of him
at all.

My dilemmas are;

Where did the Wati name come from and who was Ngawai Wati?
What happened to Huakiwi?
Why are there so many with the Retimana as a preceeding name to the one that they choose to use.( Example
Retimana Honitana, changed to just Honitana and also Johnston/Johnson.)
I would love to know where the Retimana name comes in on the Tapuika whakapapa.

Our Tuhourangi pepeha as we know it is,
Te Arawa te waka
Rangiuru te maunga
Kaituna te awa
Tuhourangi te iwi
Tapuika te hapuu
Moko te marae.

Dad always claimed to be Tuhoe and nothing but Tuhoe and I found that all the waahine on his side have strong
Tuhoe roots way back to Waikirikiri and Maungapohatu. His mother was Huka Rosie Wharekura who has Ngati Hamua
and Ngati Haka connections. If any one knows anything about my kuia's father, Hinau Wharekura, I would be
eternally grateful for that info. That is all for now, I know I have many other questions but will save for
another day.
