LAKE Family Devon England and Victoria Australia.

John James LAKE (parents John LAKE & Jane SCOTT) married Eliza Guest nee Sweet, widow in 1847 in Devon. They emigrated to Australia in 1855 with children her children Elizabeth & Eliza Guest and their children John James, Charles and Mark. William was born on the ship John Banks. More children were born in Australia: Jane, Annie and Mary.

My Penalegan and variants begin with John who died in 1606. His wife is unknown. They were from the areas of St Issey, St Petrock and St Breoke.John's son Henry married Isatt Harris and had John, Degory and William. Degory is my ancestor he married Jane Stribley, thier son John married Thomasine Yelland of St Stephen Brannel,they had Charles (II) who married Mary Davy. Thier daughter Loveday married William Jacob, thier daughter Maria married William James. It was their son Samuel who migrated to Australia and married Margaret Jones of Shropshire in 1853.

John JONES born c1800 Llanrheadr, Denbigh, Wales

John married Elizabeth HOPKINS in Oswestry Shropshire, known children were Elizabeth born 1827 Duddlesbrooke and Margaret born 1832, Oswestry. Margaret appears to have been baptised in Wales,on census info her sister Elizabeth has an illegitimate daughter Elizabeth Ann who was born in Denbigh, Wales. On the 1851 census Margaret was living as housekeeper to her father, a widower.On subsequent censuses John has daughter Elizabeth and grand daughter Elizabeth Ann living with him.

Margaret married in Australia in 1853 to Samuel James of St Ewe Cornwall.

Thomas and Jane Lillywhite had following children:
Jane, Philadelphia, Thomas, Elizabeth (my ancestor who married Charles BEST),Peter, Lydia,John, Lucy, Judith, Fanny & Christiane all born between 1762 and 1785. Elizabeth aka Eliza and Charles Best came to Australia with their 8 children

Charles Best of Beeding Sussex and Eliza, daughter of Thomas and Jane Lillywhite of Findon Sussex, came to Australia . Their children were Charles, Kitty, Martha, James, Charles, Charlotte and Phillip.

APPLEYARD, Ordery / Awdry / Audrey born abt 1777

Ordery was born in Lincolnshire possibly Old Clee. She was tried in Broughton for theft as follows:

Audrey Appleyard, a spinster, was tried at the Lindsey Quarter Sessions court on 5 October 1798, aged 21. She was convicted of stealing a checked silk handkerchief, 2 cotton pocket handkerchiefs, a girl's neck handkerchief, a woollen petticoat and a pair of women's white [?], the property of Thomas Neal. She had been previously imprisoned at the Kirton House of Correction. She was sentenced to 7 years transportation, and was transported to New South Wales on the ship 'Earl Cornwallis' in 1800.

She married John Gowen, a marine on the First Fleet in 1805.

John Ashcroft born Stretford? Lancashire c 1783.

John was transported to Australia for stealing cloth from the bleaching grounds in Horwich. Parents may have been Thomas and Elizabeth. In Australia he married Elizabeth Chapman nee Tebbutt, a widow.

Eliza Sweet born 1817 Dodbrooke Devon England

Eliza married 1/ William Guest and had 3 children Eliza, Elizabeth and Joseph.

She married 2/ John James Lake and travelled to Australia with her daughters and their 3 children, Joseph stayed behind in England.
