Looking for traces of Leonard (Keith) BENNETT b Birmingham, UK, 6th March...

... 1887, d Florida 5th June 1967.

Son of George BENNETT and Hannah n?e BOOTH. Older siblings: Mary Hannah (b 1871 Bolton; m Thomas MALLARD 1906); Arthur (b 1873 Masham, Yorks m Gertrude Lillian SMALL 1906); Harry (b Glossop 1880; m Lily GRAYSTON 1907).

Worked as a shop assistant for a clothier and tailor, and then for Birmingham Trams as conductor and driver.

Married November 1911. Two sons born September 1912 and October 1915. (This wife died June 1927.)

Emigrated from England to Canada ca May 1916.

Lived in Toronto, where he worked as a salesman for T Eaton Co, Ltd, and for The Bennett Letterhouse.

Immigrated to the USA March 1924.

Lived in Detroit: worked as floor manager for J L Hudson Co. department store and, later, as crane driver for Rotary Electric Steel.

Retired about 1958 to Largo, FL, where he died.

He appears to have been inconsistent about his birth year (1884, 1887, 1893, 1903), but there's not much doubt that all records refer to the same person. The middle name "Keith" appears only in the USA records.

I have: birth certificate March 1887; 1891/1901/1911 UK census records; UK marriage and sons' birth certificates; Toronto City Directory entries 1916, 1920, 1921, 1922; Manifest, Primary Inspection Memo, and Declaration of Intention in March 1924; Detroit City Directory 1928-9; US census 1930; Certificate of Arrival May 1934; SS5 December 1936; a marriage record from Sullivan County, TN, November 1937; Naturalization document June 1939; Oath of Allegiance October 1939; death certificate and newspaper obituary June 1967.

I have failed to find the record of his crossing from UK to Canada, even though I have trawled the images of the Canada arrival records for the crossing on which he claims to have arrived, as well as the crew lists and agreements (held at Kew, UK).

I would be very interested to know about any family he may have had in Canada or the USA. His 1937 wife's maiden name looks like FEBUARY. According to his obituary, he was survived by a widow (not the same person as the 1937 wife) and stepson. The stepson's surname was DAVIES.

If anyone is convinced that I have mixed up two (or more) men of the same name, I would welcome the evidence to help me make appropriate corrections.
