Agars of NY

I'm an Agar by marriage, and although I've been told much of the family history, I'd like to fill in the blanks.
My husband was Alan Stuart Agar (from East Meadow, Long Island), who passed away in 1994. He left behind 5 children.
I have been told of the 'family curse' and I'd like to get more information.
