Allen family from Picton. Early 1900s.

Journal by welllaw

I'm a newbie to this site... At present, I'm researching a great, great Aunt, Miss Ellen Miriam Allen. Born 27th October 1875, died 20th January 1953. Ellen and her sister Grace owned the Picton Collegiate School. In 1905 Ellen taught at Nelson Girls College and, from 1906 till 1938, was Senior Assistant Mistress at Marlborough College. I know Ellen was cremated at the Karori Crematorium in 1953 and that her ashes were uplifted. I would love to know if they were taken back to Picton; scattered or, buried? Her parents were - John and Catherine (nee McNabb) Allen and they had built a large family home at 22 Broadway, Picton, at which the Picton Collegiate School was attached. Ellen's younger brother Roger Percy Allen was my great grandfather.
