Brick Walls
1. I have searched for several years for my ancestors parentage and a continuation of their lines back through 18th Century. The direct ancestors are William Joy(e)s (variously spelt, but normally JOYES) b.
c. 1801 and his wife Lucy Johnson, b. c 1796, who were married in Pulborough, Sussex, England in 1820.
2. There is a Joyes family that has been in Campagnac area of Aveyron, France, since at least late 15th Century. From there some members have spread to other parts of France, but several remain within striking distance of the family seat. Although I have met one member and although I am in general communication with the 'branch', I am unable to link them into the Joyes in England. Question: did they cross from England to France, or was the population drift in the opposite direction? One Joyes member is quite famous for her work at Monet's house and garden at Giverny. (P.S. Joyes in France is pronounced as in 'joie', the probable origin of the name...)
To hear from anyone with any leads relating to either of the above two 'Brick Walls', would be greatly appreciated.
Terry Joyes
