Canterbury Cemetery Search
I'm searching for the grave site of James W Ferguson (1791- ?) and his wife Matilda Davis Ferguson (1801- ?). They were residents of Canterbury, New Brunswick, Canada in the census years of 1851, 1861, and 1871. I have reason to believe they are buried in the area but can't find any records of their deaths. I have checked every online cemetery & every New Brunswick data base I can think of. By the 1881 census, the oldest son (Samuel) was listed as head of household; the elders had vanished. Is anyone familiar with the local cemeteries or able to search on location? I appreciate any help available.
You didn't say whether Canterbury,New Zealand or England. In NZ there are 3 possible Canterbury burials in the Hurunui district at Balcairn Cemetary. James - no details or date of death & a Mrs. Ferguson with no details either - also a James Albert died 1959 with a minister & funeral directors details (maybe son?) http://www.hurunui.govt.nz/not-in-the-menu/cemetery-search/. I have searched all the available Canterbury data-bases BUT N.B. I was only spelling it with one 's' As the data-bases are managed by each district council, they would not all bring up all variants of the name. So you could try with the variant. Otherwise I suggest you write to the Christchurch public library - they have a card index of early settlers names. Also, if they did come to New Zealand, you could look at passenger shipping records if you know where they came from. I hope this helps - Marie
Thank you so much for trying to help. I meant Canterbury, New Brunswick, Canada. Sorry for the omission.
