Carl Kafra
Searching for my grandfather Carl Kafra, born abt 1870 or 1871 somewhere in Germany (as far as I know). He would have immigrated to America in 1910 or earlier. He supposedly died in Manhattan shortly after the birth of my father in August 1913. My grandmother's name is Anna Maria Becker from Fritzlar, Germany. She immigrated to America in October 1910.

Thank you for the information, most of which I have researched. Yes, I learned that the name is both Polish and Jewish. My grandfather, Carl Kafra (for whatever reason) was kept a secret from my grandmother's family in Germany. I only recently found out his name, when (after much effort) I obtained my father's birth certificate from NYC. My father would never tell us his real name. I did find a Carl Hermann Kafra, born 1854, living in Angerburg, East Prussia, which could be an uncle or young father to my grandfather. So now I must write to the German Archives.
