Journal by genealsue

Catherine Downey, b. 1835 in Longford, Ireland. Married Christopher Keegan abt 1860. They had six children, all born in Ballymahon, Longford, Ireland: Catherine, Anna (my ggrandmother), Teresa, Christina, Bridget and Christopher Downey.

1901 census shows Christopher, Catherine and Bridget living in the Creevagh Beg neighborhood of Ballymahon. Christopher was a mason.

Anna came to New York city around 1882, and later married Joseph Henery Hyland. They had nine children, but only three lived to adulthood: Christopher, Frank and Mary, my grandmother.

Anna was widowed sometime between 1910 and 1920, and re-married. Her 2nd husband was Frank Morgan, of Cavin, Ireland. There were no children from this marriage.

Mary Keegan married Thomas McCormick, and they had five children, only three of whom survived to adulthood: Anna May, Rita (my mother) and Richard.

I am the x3 great grand-daughter of Robert Edward Keegan born 1809 Longford, County Longford. Transported to Australia 1835 on Lady Kennaway. Died 1881 Doughboy Hollow NSW Australia.
His parents were Thomas Keegan and Catherine Ward. I know he left a wife, Jane and a daughter ? in Ireland.
Any relations to you?
Regards Patrice Keegan

I don't know. I have been unable to locate, with any certainty, any other relatives of the Keegans back in Ireland. I have census records to support what I do have - have you looked at those?

No I haven't done anything in Ireland line. Can you tell me how to do that?
I do know (source: extract from Convicts Restricted Index held at Society of Australian Genealogists 120 Kent St Sydney NSW Australia) that Robert Edward's father was Thomas Keegan, a farmer at BallyMacormick, his mother was Catherine Ward and he also had a brother at the same place".
