Catherine Guilfoyle of Portland

Catherine Guilfoyle is my great grandmother. She married John Smith in Portland Victoria (22nd July 1849).
Susan Guilfoyle (Kilfoil) was the sponsor of Mary Smith (daughter of Catherine and John) at her baptism. She was also the sponsor of Catherine, another child of John and Catherine. (Source: page 8 NSW Roman Catholic Baptisms solemised in the Parish of Portland in the county of Normandy 1850) Susan married James McEvey in 1858. She was born about 1832 and died in Rutherglen in 1906 at the age of 68. (Source: printout from the Portland Historical Society) These documents state that Susan’s father was Matthew Guilfoyle.

I believe that Susan and Catherine are most likely the sisters who arrived on the Pemberton orphan ship.
