Corangelo Carangelo All Lines

The founders of the Catskill area Carangelos are partially known.
This story begins with Pietio Carangelo, who arrived in New York on the ship 'Principe de Piemonte', having departed from Napoli, Italy in 1910, arriving in New York harbor on September 1st, 1910.
Pietio's residence in Italy was listed as Alvignano. He was 22 years old on his arrival to the States. He is listed as married, although his wife appears not to have been with him at the time. She may have come over later, or she may have already been in the States, this is a mystery that has yet to be solved. From the information we do have, his wife would probably have been born between 1880 and 1895. There are literally hundreds of potential candidates listed in the Ellis Island records, and each one would have to be researched carefully. Her arrival here would be most likely between 1905 and 1915, although earlier is more likely as we will see later.
The ship manifest is not much help here - (pic, see website)
Here I introduce a theory, but without knowing Peters wife at this time, more detective work is necessary.
Lori's site (Carangelo names), lists the following interesting information.:
-PETRO CARANGELO, b. 1889, Italy; 1920 Census, Vol. 26, ED 215, Sheet 15, Line 14, shows
he resided at 167 Culvert St., Torrington, CT with "boarder" FELIPI DiPAULI
Married to: ___?
Their Children:
-VINCENT CARANGELO, b. 10/31/11, NY; d. 8/17/98, Gloversville, NY
-GRACE CARANGELO, b. 10/3/14; d. 9/15/88, Gloversville/Fulton Co., NY
-ANTHONY VINCENT CARANGELO, b. 10/23/16, Revere, MA; d. d. 2/84, Gloversville, NY
My theory is based on a few statistically likely assumptions -
The name "Peter", "Petro", and "Pietio" are all the same person because:
This name seems fairly rare in the early records (There are no other "Peter" individuals listed in the Ellis Island records).
Birth date years are extremely close (1887,1888,and 1889)
Gloversville is only 75 miles from Catskill
The children listed were all born after 1910 (when he arrived in the States)
The last child born was in 1916, and in the 1920 census,no wife is listed (Peter is listed as 'Head of Household')
The 'Spanish Flu' killed 50 to 100 million people worldwide in 1918 and 1919, possibly affecting the first wife?
In the 1930 census we find a Peter married to a 'Maude Gaugin', with 4 children listed. The earliest birth is now 1923
So far, I have not found a burial record of 'Petro' in Fulton County (Gloversville area), only in St. Patricks in Catskill.
What this means is that the 'Gloversville' line is probably also the 'Catskill' line at the very beginning.
Just a theory for now, but entirely feasible according to the data.
For this page however, we will concentrate on the 'Catskill' line, leaving the 'Gloversville' line on a separate page.
Peters age seems to vary between the census records, somehow he ages 14 years during the ten years between the 1930 and 1940 census. All other family members, including Maude, stay very consistent. Peter may not have known his exact date of birth, making up ages on the fly. Most records agree he was born C. 1888 and died in 1962. He is buried at St. Patrick's cemetery in Catskill, NY.
We know a bit more about Maude, who would be Pietio's second wife, according to my scenario.
We find her first in the 1930 census. Maude's mother was from the "Free Irish State", her father listed as "French Canadian". Like the Carangelos, her name is also subject to many variants, among them 'Gagen', 'Gaugan', or 'Guagan'. UPDATE - it seems this name may actually be "Gagnon".
It appears Maude was born in 1905, making her only 5 years old when Peter arrived in New York. Maude died in 1970, and is buried in St. Patrick's cemetery in Catskill, along with Peter.

The Tinglers lived in Sleepy Hollow (Lake) up on Murderers Creek.
