Dacy Daicy Dacey Deasy Deasey
I am researching the Dacy family tree with all its spelling variations. My family members are the Australian descendants of John Daicy, son of John Daicy and Catherine Daley, farmers from County Cork, Ireland. The story of migration to Australia is published on the Immigration Bridge Website.

So far I have no further trace back to Cork than the names of John's parents.
I am also seeking information about the meaning of the name. My research indicates that Deasey (and all its variations) means "Southerner" but as the name has been corrupted by Anglicisation and changes in pronunciation, I am not sure of my phonological ground here. The spelling underwent a change from Daicy to Dacy between the arrival of John Daicy and the baptism of his son, John Dacy in 1849.
I would love to hear from possible family out there.
